Michael Lightner Inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame

Oklahoma Wrestling is proud to celebrate Michael Lightner, who has been inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame – Oklahoma Chapter with the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award.  Lightner’s impact on the sport of wrestling stretches far beyond his remarkable career on the mat. As both an athlete and a coach, he has exemplified the highest standards of excellence, dedication, and leadership that define the Oklahoma Wrestling tradition.  

A four-time All-American and NCAA finalist during his storied career at the University of Oklahoma, Lightner’s legacy continues through his mentorship and commitment to developing the next generation of wrestlers. His passion for the sport and influence within the wrestling community have left a lasting mark not only on OU Wrestling but across the state and nation. The Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award honors individuals who have devoted their lives to advancing and preserving the sport. Lightner’s induction is a well-deserved recognition of decades spent building champions—on and off the mat.
